The first round of Fairway Connect 2025 is officially in the books! Last Friday, a small but energetic (and thirsty) group of golfers took to the fairways at Royal Waratah Golf Course for an unforgettable day of friendly competition, meaningful conversations, and community support.
A Day on the Fairways
It was great to see both familiar faces and new ones join us for this round. As always, the competition was fierce but friendly, with Abes captaining a team of 'burglars' to victory at -7, while Maddo’s team proudly brought up the rear at +3. A special mention to Brash and Col, who could have taken us down individually, but they wouldn’t have had nearly as much fun!
Beyond the scores, the real win was the camaraderie, the laughs, and the shared appreciation for what Fairway Connect is all about—bringing people together through golf, conversation, and connection.
A Special Guest: Jay Stevens
One of the highlights of the day was having Jay Stevens join us for a chat. Many of you may know Jay’s story—he was injured in an underground mining accident in 2022 and is now a quadriplegic. Instead of letting his circumstances define him, Jay has channelled his resilience into something truly inspiring—The Stand for Spine charity.
This organisation provides support for others facing similar life-changing injuries, helping them adjust and find new opportunities. On behalf of Fairway Connect, we were proud to make a donation to his cause, and we encourage anyone who can to contribute.
You can support Jay’s charity here: https://www.standforspinal.com/jays-story
Due to a lower turnout this round, we’ve invited Jay back for the next event—so if you missed the chance to hear his story, make sure you join us next time.
More Than Just Golf
While the golf was great, the post-round conversations were something special. We often hear about structured programs that aim to get men talking, but on Friday, it happened naturally—over a quiet beer, with no pressure, no scripts, just genuine mateship. It reinforced why Fairway Connect exists: to create a space where blokes can catch up, talk openly, and support each other in a relaxed environment.
Lock in the Next Round
If you missed out this time, don’t worry—Round 2 is coming up soon! Details below, and make sure you secure your spot early. Whether you’re here for the golf, the banter, or just a chance to connect, we’d love to see you there.
